Ramon's out by the lake, despite it being early. There had been no sleep and he got Random to let him into the bar as soon as the sun came up. So he's out there, sitting on a rock - coincidentally, the same one he'd been sitting on when Arithon came to find him after the Valar duel. Just like then, he's smoking and the smoke hangs in the still air while he stares out over the water.

Date: 2006-01-04 05:42 am (UTC)And his expression, which had been faintly confused, clears when he sees his caith'd'ein.
"Good morning, Sanluin."
no subject
Date: 2006-01-04 05:44 am (UTC)'Morning Arithon. Who told you? And how was the honeymoon?'
no subject
Date: 2006-01-04 05:46 am (UTC)He offers Ramon one of the steaming cups of cider, and settles down near him,
"It was lovely. We may request to go back, now that Bianca can enjoy the sun."
no subject
Date: 2006-01-04 05:47 am (UTC)'Thanks. So...she said yes?'
He's not surprised. But it'll still be amazing to hear it.
no subject
Date: 2006-01-04 05:49 am (UTC)He shakes his head, cupping the cider for warmth as well,
"She is still getting used to it. Sleeping, breathing, needing to wear a coat. She is so beautiful."
More so, now that she isn't supernaturally so, in his eyes. He wouldn't have thought that was possible.
no subject
Date: 2006-01-04 05:52 am (UTC)'Congratulations may be the wrong word, but it's the most appropriate I can think of. That's great news amigo. I thought she'd go for it but she seemed a bit shaken when she found out.'
no subject
Date: 2006-01-04 05:54 am (UTC)He asks, shaking his head and laughing,
"If you were told that you might be able to bear a child, and spend five hundred years with Random?"
no subject
Date: 2006-01-04 05:56 am (UTC)'...um. Well, if someone asks me to bear a child I think I'd probably just hang myself. As for five hundred years...' He hesitates. '...well, I've already got those. Or I will, when I go to the fountain. I don't know if Asandir told you about that?'
He's still rather worried that Arithon will hate the idea.
no subject
Date: 2006-01-04 05:58 am (UTC)He looks at Ramon with serious, worried green eyes,
"It is not...comfortable. You wish it, though, as I did not. Random told me it was a finished thing...I will not try to stop you, roth."
no subject
Date: 2006-01-04 06:04 am (UTC)'You know I want the time. At least this way I'll be doing something useful with it. I haven't told Random I have to go to Mearth yet, so that's probably why he thinks it's already done. But I'm not going to turn down the offer so I guess you're stuck with me for a good while yet.'
He smiles a little nervously, hoping that that idea isn't so terrible. He thinks he can do a good job. But he remembers well the conversation about Jieret too and hopes that Arithon hasn't made the connections yet.
no subject
Date: 2006-01-04 06:07 am (UTC)This is utterly honest.
"I sorrow for what it means for Jieret, but I am glad that they asked you. It is a desert world, Mearth. You need only a sip, a bottle will give you no more time. The curse of Mearth is something not quite like living shadows...they are not quite alive, they are not quite shadows, and what they touch is trapped within the worst of memories until it too dies and becomes one of them. Asandir saved my life, but not quite all of my sanity, when I was touched by one.
You shall not need to enter the city that they dwell in, the fountain is not there. If you see, however, a shadow which moves to you, flee it."
He's trying to give Ramon all possible help.
no subject
Date: 2006-01-04 06:12 am (UTC)Even without the offer of extra time, he would have said yes anyway. And he doesn't go near the subject of Jieret because he's not about to give the man the few details he knows. He considers that it'll just make everything worse if he has time to anticipate it all.
He listens carefully to what he's told, and nods. 'Is it likely that they'll come out of the city?' He's not worried, per say, but he likes to go into a situation with all possible information, if possible.
no subject
Date: 2006-01-04 06:15 am (UTC)He says with something not really a smile,
"I was rather dying at the time. Dehydrated, cursed, and recovering from Lysaer's father's hospitality."
Arithon doesn't ask. He can't. He can't face it, what may happen. What will happen.
no subject
Date: 2006-01-04 06:20 am (UTC)'I'm sure it'll be OK.' He wants to ask whether the job's already started. Jieret is, after all, still alive. He won't ask but has already decided that he'll act as though it has, in this place at least.
'So will you try for a baby as soon as possible? I'm sure the Fellowship will be happier the quicker you have a child. Asandir was very emphatic on the importance of the bloodline being continued.'
no subject
Date: 2006-01-04 06:23 am (UTC)"It will. I do not think that they would let you go, not after putting this much effort into you."
If he sounds bitter, that's only because he is. Very.
"I do not know. I think that Bianca should be used to being human again before she attempts to be a mother. It is not, however, my choice alone. It is not, at all, Asandir's."
no subject
Date: 2006-01-04 06:28 am (UTC)And they have given him someone as caith'd'ein that wouldn't dream of hurting him again. Unless it's for his own good.
'Of course. It's up to the two of you.' He means that too. He's been charged with looking after the s'Ffalenn, not the worlds, so as far as he's concerned Asandir can wait for whatever Arithon wants and he'll back his friend up.
no subject
Date: 2006-01-04 06:30 am (UTC)He says quietly,
"They changed their minds. I do not know why. Now that they have decided you will do...well. They are looking out for me. I do not wish to be what they need me to be, not all of it."
Then he shrugs, and grins helplessly at Ramon,
"We have time to decide."
no subject
Date: 2006-01-04 06:35 am (UTC)He has no qualms about admitting what he is. Why should he? Everyone knows and he's not ashamed of being a sociopath. It amuses him rather.
'Do you have any plans at the moment? To go back or anything similar? I know you and Bianca will be adjusting for a while, but after that?'
no subject
Date: 2006-01-04 06:38 am (UTC)He looks up at Ramon, shakes his head, and laughs softly,
"This is most likely why you were chosen. It...bothers me, but no more than it would if anyone else had to do what needs to be done. You understand."
And then he shakes his head more firmly,
"No plans, not yet. This has us reeling."

Date: 2006-01-04 06:43 am (UTC)Although every murder he commits is for a reason. Like - he was in a bad mood. Or someone lost him some money. Or he was drunk and decided to chuck someone off a plane. That sort of thing.
He grins suddenly at him. 'You with a baby. It'll be interesting to watch. I don't think there'll be a more protective father in any universe.'
It occurs to him that he'll have to get used to kids again. Yuk.
no subject
Date: 2006-01-04 06:46 am (UTC)"I...would not be surprised if you are right. I like children."
The bright, young smile of his flashes out and he leans back,
"It will be up to Bianca how many, but I would like to have several children."
He isn't thinking about lifespans. He will continue to not think about lifespans.

Date: 2006-01-04 06:49 am (UTC)Something Asandir said has been on his mind since he said it, and he figures he might as well ask.
'Look, the sorceror said something about my kids when he did this thing to me. I wasn't really paying attention because - well, he'd just done it, you know? Something about them possibly having to do the job as well? Do you know what he meant?'

Date: 2006-01-05 02:47 am (UTC)The little prince says with a shrug,
"However, you are to live five hundred years. I would worry more about your great grandchildren times several generations."
no subject
Date: 2006-01-05 02:56 am (UTC)Because there's a good chance that'll be the case.

Date: 2006-01-05 03:02 am (UTC)Arithon says dryly,
"He will manage."
no subject
Date: 2006-01-05 03:06 am (UTC)He doesn't say it. Not to Arithon. So he just shrugs it off and says, 'Well, it's years away. No need to worry about it yet.'
And no, the thought that he'll oulive his children either hasn't occurred to him, or doesn't bother him.
no subject
Date: 2006-01-05 03:11 am (UTC)"Very true. How were your holidays?"
no subject
Date: 2006-01-05 03:25 am (UTC)There's no words really. Just...well, it was home.
'...perfect. And he loved it.'
no subject
Date: 2006-01-05 03:27 am (UTC)He asks, with real interest. Arithon enjoys new places. Usually people in places he hasn't been before aren't trying to kill him.
no subject
Date: 2006-01-05 03:40 am (UTC)'It's my favourite of the properties I own. In the mountains - they're called the Andes - overlooking Bogota, which is the capital of Columbia. It's empty at the moment as I'm supposed to be in prison, but it's a huge place. And there's a lot of land, I usually have a lot of livestock there. There's fields that stretch up the mountainside and some of them are fairly flat - and there's a place, I took Random to it, where you can stand right on the very edge of the mountain, on a ledge and there's nothing around you...and it looks over the valley that the city is in. Just...it's the most beautiful view there is.'
He really does love that place, even more so now that he can't really go there.
no subject
Date: 2006-01-05 03:42 am (UTC)"My hopes that you may return to it, soon."
no subject
Date: 2006-01-05 03:48 am (UTC)'Well. Random's taking me back soon to sort some things out with Hector. And eventually I'll be working for you so...' He shrugs. '...guess I won't be seeing that much of it in the future.'
no subject
Date: 2006-01-05 03:51 am (UTC)Arithon looks at Ramon wryly,
"Say, rather, for Rathain. It is not in the nature of caith'd'ein to listen overmuch to their kings. There are five hundred years. Plus the time spent here, it does not count in the five hundred."
no subject
Date: 2006-01-05 04:00 am (UTC)Of course, now he's wondering what that means for the thing with Martin, and sighing all over again. But he does say, 'That's right, Asandir was pretty clear on the fact that I'd have to do what i thought was best for you.' He glances over. 'And I will. If I have to knock you unconscious to get you away from somewhere, I will.'
no subject
Date: 2006-01-05 04:04 am (UTC)He says, not rubbing the back of his head and neck. He's worked hard to get rid of that particular twitch,
"I hope to not make it a need. I do not like headaches."
Yet another situation that Arithon knows nothing about. Which is fine, because he'd fret for all three of them.
no subject
Date: 2006-01-05 04:09 am (UTC)And he won't find out anything about that situation either.
'Did Bar give you your Christmas presents from Random and I?'
no subject
Date: 2006-01-05 04:10 am (UTC)"I have not really been in the bar, yet. Just long enough to say goodbye to Jiask, help Asandir make Bianca human..."
Which deserves another moment of giddy silence,
"And get cider."
no subject
Date: 2006-01-05 04:14 am (UTC)He hesitates for a second, then asks, 'Didn't hurt her did it? The change back?'
no subject
Date: 2006-01-05 04:17 am (UTC)He says after a moment,
"And, yes. It did. Something which rode her for five centuries was removed. How could it not hurt? She does not even remember what it is like to have to breathe all the time. She is not used to the hundreds of small aches which are part of every day life."
A deep breath, and a shrug,
"But we will go, and see her house by sunlight."
no subject
Date: 2006-01-05 04:24 am (UTC)He really is so happy for his brother. And no, he doesn't have any qualms about thinking of him that way any more.
no subject
Date: 2006-01-05 04:26 am (UTC)He grins at Ramon again, and then looks at the empty cup,
"I should go back to her...she has not eaten in five hundred years."

Date: 2006-01-05 04:28 am (UTC)He leads the way back to the bar and really, things are pretty damn good right now, he feels.
