Ramon's more than happy to disappear while Arithon and Random do their thing with magic and souls. He's a little less comfortable with having to entertain a kid while they do so.

Hmmm. Beach. There's a lot of sand. He has no blanket to put the kid on and has the vague notion that putting him down without one would be Frowned Upon. Also, how does one put sunscreen on a baby that's wearing clothes anyway.

Ramon does the sensible thing. He stands and...flails waits for a solution to present itself.

'Isn't everything, in that place?' he mutters a little sourly, and then turns back to his contemplation of the sky.

'I hope your own will be somewhat normal. Or as normal as they can be, with the two of you for parents.'

He closes his eyes and there's a perceptible groan.

'Jesus seriously, just kill me now.'

"And witches - being able to see and control spirits, levitate things..."

He glares at her.

'...what? Witches? Why?'

"Because that's what I am - a witch, now that I'm not a vampire. Spirits are attracted to me, and if I really wanted to I could ask them to do things for me."

'I didn't know that. How the hell did that happen?'

No no no, wait, what?

This is all news to him.

'What the fuck are you talking about?'

She glances down at him.

"Okay. Being a witch, being psychic, here in this world they tend to run in families, yes? It ran in my father's, so I inherited the ability to read minds, to see ghosts of people and things, and to be attractive to spirits. When I was a vampire, I was possessed by a spirit, so that canceled out the later two abilities. When that portion of Amel was banished, I'm back on the spirit radar, so to speak. That's all witches are, here, people who can ask spirits to do things for them."

He looks around him, a touch fearfully, as though hordes of witches will suddenly appear and start doing spooky things at him.

'Christ, is nowhere safe? This is Earth, there's not supposed to be magic,' he grumbles.

"It's not magic?"

'Yes it is,' he replies stubbornly. 'No one can do that where I'm from.'

Which is the important thing, he thinks.

"It's not, actually. They are just...little balls of vaugely sentient energy. Not actually magic. And how do you know?"

'Sounds like magic to me.'

He turns his head to check that Martin's still alive and hasn't started to eat sand yet - only a matter of time, he thinks - then glances up at her with a disdainful expression.

'If there were that stuff on my Earth, then people would know about it. And we don't.'

Yes, he likes his generalisations, at times. But hell, for all he knows, this Eath and his could be the same. He's clueless about such matters and there's really no way to check.

"Not all people here do know. In fact, most don't. Nearly all don't. Just as nearly all people here believe that vampires are the work of fiction."

He contemplates that for a moment, then looks around again.

'Jesus, I hope this Earth isn't the same as my own.'

It's only just occured to him and isn't that nice a thought.

'What year is it here?'

"It's currently March 2006. Sunday, 19th, to be exact. Time...sometime after one?"

He relaxes then and turns his head away again.

'That's alright then. Even if its the same world, the shit hasn't hit the fan yet.'

Yet another smoke gets lit and he exhales quietly before bringing the magic thing up again.

'Little balls of sentient energy? Whats the use of them?'

"Well, they can tell me things. Find things. Get enough of them, pamper and sedcue them enough, and they can make it rain. Things like that." She's smiling as she says it, though.

He sneers. Sounds like magic to him.
